I love to play poker online. Actually, I learned this beautiful game in the internet %u2013 reading articles on how to play it, where to play and the different strategies and techniques in playing it online. I also played the game in some poker rooms like Party Poker. But I never really had the experience to play it with my friends. So I decided to tweet my thoughts about meeting them and playing with them. These friends go way back in high school. Luckily, four of them liked the idea. So I decided to hold here in our place on Friday night. When Friday came, all of them arrived just in time and pretty excited stating that they also had the crazy idea of playing with us. In the middle of the game, around 11 o%u2019clock, I told them for us to have a little break and order pizza and drink beer. They approved of it. When the pizza came, each ate a lot because they said they were starving.
While we were in the middle of the break, John, was too excited to wait told us to get on with the game while eating and drinking. So we thought all right that%u2019s a great idea. A week after that, Phil said that we were going to have it again at his place and we agreed. Then it became a regular meeting every week, we didn%u2019t miss a meeting and we are aiming not to. This is a pretty great experience because this brings back memories back in the days when we were having great times. It%u2019s a way of releasing the pressure that is always on our doorstep. You should try one yourself. I for one would say that this is a great way wherein you could spend time with your real friends. And you also have people to talk to. So it%u2019s really a wholesome gathering. We forget about girls, about baseball games and everything that we did in high school.

It makes a lot of sense to write about subjects that one is interested in. This is why I have chosen to write about games. Two things are innate in men, the desire for war and the desire for games. Growing up as a boy required me to participate in all types of games. I have been playing with toys for as long as I can remember. The older I grew the fancier and more expensive they became. Think about it, when I was young I played with hand held toy cars. Now I drive one. So what is it about games that make men feel masculine? I think there are three things. One of them is that games provide men with a safer version of war to express their "war instinct". Secondly, games provide an outlet from the pressure that life deals ordinary men and thirdly, games are a source of work for some men.

War is carved in the male psyche. It is true that women play a vital role in wars and in some cases they have even risen to the ranks of generals. However, active war remains the domain of men. This has been true since the ancient times. Most games carry the most prominent masculine trait, which is competition. Being a man at the instinctive level pushes men towards dominance. Wars are meant to subdue and conquer. In this sense, war seeks to create a class of the dominant versus the subdued. Most games, such as soccer, pool, golf, basketball and even chess, produce a class of conquerors. In this way, games provide men with a peaceful outlet for their "war instinct".

The second role games play in the lives of men is that it provides them with a viable outlet for all the pressure they go through in the course of life. Whenever I play, I leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Games provide us men with a way to channel out our frustrations with life and the general pressure that accompanies most activities. In this sense, I have an outlet for pent up anger, unreleased energy and negative emotions. Apparently women achieve a fair degree of relief by talking. I find that I need something more tangible and forceful to feel the same kind of relief.

Finally, some men have made games their way of life and their source of sustenance. In fact, some of the best paid men are sports persons. Competitive games such as the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup illustrate the potential for games to provide a living for men. Once more, it is important to note that these are not purely male endeavors. However, many more men compared to women make a living out of games. I do not belong to any professional team but I enjoy participating amateur events where I occasionally get a medal. 
In conclusion, games have played an integral role in my life and it is my contention that the world stands to be a better place if more men can find a game of their choice to participate in. I certainly feel better adjusted as a result of my lifelong participation in games.
